Dear Members, You may recall my recent message gave house owners the opportunity of a free Crime Prevention Survey conducted by the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team. I am pleased to say the uptake has been very good. Each household the team have visited has been left with informative crime prevention advice regarding how their properties security could be improved. The team are extending the Crime Prevention Survey into April so if you would like a member of the team to visit please contact the team on 0208 721 2459 or email us to arrange a date and time convenient.
When you leave your home it’s important to ensure you leave it as secure as possible.
By observing the above tips I suggest you will greatly reduce the opportunity of becoming a victim of this type of crime. On another note: Do you know of a budding athlete aged 14 -17 years?
Thank you for reading Dan Wheatley

There has been a slight increase in burglaries within the last two weeks. These are split into two areas, one around Chestnut Grove and the other around Lancaster Avenue and Berkshire Way. The main problem times are between midday and 4pm. Please contact Pollards Hill Safer Neighbourhood about any suspicious behaviour or in emergency dial 999. Point of entry varies between front or rear doors as well as windows being smashed and the property taken includes high value televisions and laptops. The people carrying out these burglaries are probably not from this area. If anyone looks out of place or is acting suspiciously please report it. There has been one incident recently in Johnson Close where a male and female gained entry to a house stating they were care workers. It was discovered later that cash had been removed from a drawer in the bedroom. If anyone knocks on your door please ask for identification. If they do not have identification do not let them in. Check with the suitable head office before you let any individual into your home. The people that commit these crimes are experts and will appear authentic. Be particularly careful with any appointments that have not been arranged such as water or gas leaks. If in doubt call the police or Pollards Hill Safer Neighbourhood team on the number below. Besides the slight recent increase in February, burglary remains down from last year. We can only continue to improve on this with your help. Pollards Hill next drop in surgery at the New Horizon Centre on South Lodge Avenue is on 26th March at 7pm until 8pm. Please take this opportunity to speak with us about any issue.

Since the start of February to date ( 11th March ) there have been 3 residential burglaries within the whole of Merton Park. These occurred in roads to the south and east of the ward. Entry at one was via the UNLOCKED rear patio doors, and we urge ALL residents to please ensure that ALL doors and windows are locked whenever they leave their homes. Burglars have been successfully thwarted at 4 other premises. Although attempts were made, entry was unsuccessful due to the security measures home-owners had taken. Merton Park Police Community Support Officer, Will Dauncey is now able to give bespoke Crime Prevention advice to Merton Park residents free of charge Having been on the ward for nearly 2 years, he is excellently placed to give advice around security within your home. He is able to consider the local issues particularly affecting your road as well as general security measures specific to your house. Please contact us, either via mertonpark.SNT@met.police.uk or 0208 721 2451 to arrange a visit to your home at a time which is convenient to you. More general advice on products available to home owners is available on www.securedbydesign.com Finally, a warm welcome to our latest members, many of who live in or around Daybrook Road and Kenley Road. We hope that you find this free service useful. Should you wish to recommend it to others, then please ensure they sign up to Merton Police - Merton Park

Stonecot Safer Neighbourhood Team has been working to tackle boy racers who have been congregating at Tesco’s car park in Oldfields Road on Thursday evenings. Combined use of the CCTV van, local officers and specialist traffic units has enabled them to reduce the number of incidents, together with numerous ‘stops’ as well as tickets for various offences. All of which have helped to tackle this issue. As the result of a disturbance call attended by the 999 response team, a brothel in London Road was located and closed down and the landlord suitably advised. A number of drug dealers have been arrested after police observed a deal taking place between the occupants of two vehicles in a local car park. Two males were seen tampering with a moped in Longfellow Road, Worcester Park. When realised they had been spotted they made off on a bus which was travelling towards Kingston. Worcester Park SNT gave chase and stopped the bus and arrested |

Officers from Sutton Police station have closed down three cannabis factories following raids at three separate addresses in Carshalton and Sutton. About 100 plants were found at Waverley Way, Carshalton, whilst between 30-50 plants were found at the other two addresses in Oliver Road, Sutton, and Peterborough Road, Carshalton. Three men and three women have been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and have been bailed pending further enquiries. The properties raided included both privately owned and let premises. Police urge landlords to make regular checks on their lettings. It is in landlords’ interests to make regular checks as significant damage can be caused to properties as a result of these factories. Police ask residents to report comings and goings of occupiers at odd times of the day and night; curtains closed permanently to hide the blazing lights required to grow the plants; and sweet smells emanating from the property. |

Officers from Sutton’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams spoke to dozens of residents and made around 50 ‘stops’ on individuals during a ‘Day of Action’ in Woodcote Road and Wallington Square.
