A murder investigation is underway after a death in Camberwell. On Wednesday 11 May at approximately 16:15hrs, police and London Ambulance Service (LAS) were called to the rear of Calais Gate, Cormont Road, London SE5 to reports of an injured boy. On arrival officers found a 15-year-old boy who had suffered stab wounds. He was taken to a south London hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead at approximately 22.30hrs. Officers believe they know his identity but we await formal identification. His next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course. Detective Chief Inspector, John McFarlane from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "At this early stage in the investigation we believe that just after 16:00hrs, there was an altercation at the rear of Calais Gate, Cormont Road, SE5 involving a number of youths which resulted in the victim being stabbed. "I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or seen youths acting suspiciously in the area in and around Cormont Road to contact the incident room." ** Chief Superintendent Nick Ephgrave of Lambeth borough police ** adds “The murder of another young man in our community is a shocking event made more so by his young age. I want to thank the local people who have already come forward and given information to my officers, which has led to arrests and recovery of significant evidence. Lambeth Borough Police Officers will be playing their part in a week long initiative to raise awareness and fight homophobia and transphobia on the streets of Lambeth. The initiative starting on May 17, will see police officers from Lesbian Gay Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT), Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) and Local Policing Teams (LPT) come together to provide additional patrols and provide a strong presence on Clapham High Street area. Officers will be on hand to give advice and support. May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia and transphobia also known as IDAHO. This date is very symbolic as on May 17 1990 the World Health Organisation put an end to over a century of homophobia in the medical field, by removing homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses. A man and a 17 year-old boy have been charged with the murder of a 34 year-old man in Herne Hill. [A] Horace Campbell, 27, of Tovil Close SE20 and [B] A male, aged 17, from Tulse Hill, SW2 were both charged on 28 April with the murder of Raymond Mitchell aka Devon Scarlett on 17 April in Marcus Garvey Way, Herne Hill. They first appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court on the 29 April and were remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 4 May. Officers were called at approximately 06.50hrs on 17 April to reports of a man shot in Marcus Garvey Way SE24. A man was taken by ambulance to King's College Hospital where he died shortly before 12.30hrs. He was Raymond Sylvester Mitchell, 34, also known as Devon Scarlett, of Croydon. A post-mortem gave cause of death as gunshot wounds. An incident room opened under DCI Gordon Allison (Trident).

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has launched a review into the different ways in which the public can contact police and access our services. These range from telephone, online and face-to-face methods, including via police stations and appointments. As part of the review, the MPS has launched an online survey to find out which of the many channels the public use to contact us and after learning about the variety of ways that exist, the survey poses the question would members of the public choose a different way of accessing police services in future. The MPS will use the results of the survey, which runs until Friday 27 May, to help develop a strategy to maintain and enhance public access to policing services. Dean West aged 22years (DOB 26/11/1987) of Bicknor Road, Maidstone, ME15 was today, 13 April, sentenced to four years and 6 months imprisonment for his part in the serious assault of two men. Inner London Crown Court heard that on Saturday 3 July at aprox 01:30hrs two men were assaulted by a group of four men in South London Pacific bar Kennington Road, SE11. The victims aged 26years and 29years were enjoying a night out with friends when a verbal argument broke out with the men. One of the victims was head butted and struck with a cocktail glass causing lacerations to his face. The other required several stitches after being hit to the head with an unknown object. The four suspects made off after the assault; however one had been injured during the assault and left a blood trail. Lambeth Borough Police Officers identified West from this DNA left at the scene and he was arrested. West was found guilty by the Jury of GBH on Wednesday 9 March. Detective Constable Chris Stewart of Lambeth GBH unit said,”I am very pleased that my investigation has led to the conviction of this violent male. I hope Londoners can feel that little bit safer tonight knowing that he is now behind bars.” Detective Inspector Barry Smith said, “Tackling violent crime is a priority for Lambeth Borough and I am pleased to see Mr West has been brought to justice.”

Police are appealing to the public to help trace 15 year old Miss Ann-Lucy MOKHOON from Waltham Forest. Ann-Lucy, was last seen at 8:00pm on 4th April 2011 at her home address. She left that night believed to have gone to her boyfriend who lives in Walthamstow however has not been seen since. Ann Lucy may also have contacts in Lambeth ‘SW16‘ area as it is known that her boyfriend’s sister lives there who used to reside in Waltham Forest borough. Police have been to both addresses in Walthamstow and Lambeth however as of yet have not been able to find her Ann-Lucy is of Mauritian national, five foot eight tall, with long dark curly hair. Lambeth's Borough Commander has called for a "visible [policing] presence" following a shooting in Stockwell on Tuesday (29 March), which has left a young girl and a 35 year-old man in a critical condition in hospital. Borough Commander, Nick Ephgrave said: "Today my thoughts and prayers are with the five year old girl, the 35 year old man and their families. "The investigation in to this shooting is being led by operation Trident, but Lambeth officers were in attendance at the scene and continue to provide support to the investigation. "Whilst exact details of what happened remain to be established, what is clear is that two innocent bystanders have been caught up in a violent attack on other persons. "I want to make it clear to all those who live or work in Lambeth that the investigation into this matter will continue until those responsible for this indiscriminate shooting are identified and brought to justice. "In the meantime, I have directed that all available resources be deployed to Stockwell and the surrounding area to provide a very visible presence and to seek to prevent any further outbreaks of violence. Once the youths on bikes were outside the shop, one of them fired shots into the shop front. A five year old girl was shot in the chest and the 35-year-old man was shot in the face. They were both taken to a south London hospital. Their conditions are described as critical but stable. The two youths, who police believe were the intended targets, ran from the shop and chased the three others who were on bikes, running off along Broom Grove Road and into the Stockwell Park Estate. An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Tony Boughton, Trident, on 020 8247 4553. No arrests. Enquiries continue.

Theft of Range Rover in Streatham Vale, SW16 Lambeth Borough Police are investigating the theft of a Range Rover which took place in Streatham Vale, SW16. On Thursday 27 January, a black Range Rover Vogue was driving south on Streatham Vale, SW16 when a man standing on the pavement near the junction with Glenister Park Road pointed at the nearside of the vehicle. The driver stopped his car and got out to check the front wheels, thinking he might have a puncture. He left his key in the ignition. The man standing on the pavement beckoned the driver round to the nearside. As the driver checked the nearside of his vehicle, he saw a second man get into his car and drive off down Streatham Vale towards Mitcham. The first man ran off down Glenister Park Road. Police were called and the driver telephoned to activate a tracking device fitted to his vehicle. The vehicle was later found locked and parked about a mile from the scene of the theft. The suspects are described as white men, both about 25 - 30 years of age. They were casually dressed in blue jeans and dark blue jackets. The first suspect spoke in broken English. This is one of a number of similar offences in the area recently, where mainly, but not exclusively, high value new cars have been targeted. There have also been reports of vans being targeted. Police are advising motorists to exercise caution if they are alerted to a problem with their vehicle in similar circumstances, and always to remove keys from the vehicle when getting out. Particular care should be taken not to get out of the vehicle and leave the engine running in vehicles which have a ‘keyless ignition’. DCI Nick Sedgemore said, ‘Beware of getting out of your vehicle without taking your keys.' Safer Neighbourhoods Teams (SNTs) across London are consulting with local businesses and members of the community as part of the Met’s review of neighbourhood policing. The purpose of the review is to find better ways of using current neighbourhood policing resources to meet the needs of the local community. It will also ensure that local police teams continue to deliver an effective and relevant service in the right place at the right times. SNTs will be talking to businesses and community members throughout December and January about neighbourhood policing and will gather their thoughts and feedback in a questionnaire. Members of the community are also being encouraged to complete the questionnaire themselves online. Borough commanders and SN leads have also been consulting with staff and partners such as local authority chief executives and ward panel members. AC McPherson has also held a series of meetings with local authority chief executives to discuss the review. The feedback from this consultation will help inform any possible future changes to how neighbourhood policing is delivered. No changes will be made without talking to local partners and community members. In Lambeth there has been an increase in letter box burglary. The perpetrator puts their hand/tools through the letter box and opens the door using the handle from the inside. This provides easy quiet access to the premises. To combat this ensure that you double lock your door. This means a key will be required to open the door, instead of it just opening by using the handle inside. Keep keys in a place all members of the family are aware of to open the doors in case of an emergency, but out of sight of a burglar.
