PCSO’s from the Oval Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) continue to clamp down on cycling on footpaths. On Monday 9 August, at approximately 11:30am on South Lambeth Road PCSO’s stopped a man cycling along the footpath. An accompanying PC made the arrest of the young man on suspicion of going to commit a burglary.
A pair of bolt cutters was found in the young man’s bag to which he could not give a reasonable explanation for having. He was consequently arrested and taken to a South London Police Station where upon further examination it was suspected that the bike he was riding had been stolen. The bike had been property marked, so that in the event of a loss the bike could be returned to the owner.
The youth, 16, from South Lambeth has been bailed pending further enquiries regarding the ownership of the bike.
Sergeant Sacre from the Oval SNT said: “This is a good example of local officers knowing local people, and the merits of property marking. Hopefully we can now reunite the bike to its rightful owner”.
