Lower Morden Communitysafe 15th April 2010
Update on Ward Priorities.
1) Garage Burglary near Dunster Avenue, Morden
Patrols continue and no further offences have been reported in the area. Police have recovered a blue Raleigh pedal cycle that may be the proceeds of crime. Anyone with any information please contact the team.
2) Criminal Damage to Motor Vehicles in Lynmouth Avenue, Morden
There has been one historic report of damage reported from earlier in the year. Since the leaflet campaign there has been no new crimes. The team continue to patrol the area and reassurance provided to local residents.
3) ASB in Four Acres Estate
Two youths have recently been stopped at the location. Both where searched by officers but nothing illegal found on them. This is the only interaction with youths on the estate by the team. Speaking to local residents they have not been suffering ASB in the location as much as in previous years. The SNT team have arranged for PC Hunt to attend the location and make suggestions around the design of certain locations in an effort to minimise the attraction of the area to the youths.
4) ASB in Beaver Close
The team spent two days in Beaver Close along with Merton Council, Crabtree Housing and London & Quadrant Housing. The Reassurance Bus was at the site and all parties spent the two days discussing the issues affecting residents. The main concerns being children playing in areas where vehicles are parked and also dog fouling. The council will provide a dog fouling collection bin in the worst area. The police and Housing associations are looking into the possibility of a separate play area for the children.
Just as a side note, some useful information sent out by Lee Roberts to the Neighbourhood watch Co- Coordinators around burglary.
TEN THINGS A BURGLAR WON’T TELL YOU - Ten more to follow next time…….
1. Of course I look familiar, I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.
2. Thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.
3. Love the flowers. That tells me you have taste and taste means there are nice things inside. Those toys your kids leave out always make me wonder what type of gaming system they have.
4. I really do look for newspapers piled up in the porch and I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it.
5. If it snows while you're out of town, ask a neighbour to create car and foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway.
6. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don't let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it's set.
7. A good security company alarms the window over the sink and the windows on the first floor, which often access the master bedroom and your jewellery. It's not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.
8. It's raining, you're fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your door. Understandable, but understand this: I don't take a day off because of bad weather.
9. I always knock first. If you answer, I'll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. Don't take me up on it.
10. Do you really think I won't look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet.
The team continues to work with the local community and visitors to Lower Morden Ward to ensure public safety and Lower Morden continues to be one of the safest wards in London. If you have any concerns re crime or Anti Social Behaviour please contact the team on 0208 721 2456 or email LowerMorden.SNT@met.police.uk
Thanks
