Hillside Update 12 May 15:30
Residents of Hillside Ward this email is an update as to what crime has occurred on the ward in the past few weeks. I will provide a break down of the crime for the month of April 2010. There have been 5 residential burglaries on the ward. Any report of burglary is unacceptable and the team is committed to reduce this figure in the coming months. Please report any suspicious persons/activity to the police via 999 or to the team details below. Vehicle crime on the ward reveals that in April 2010 only 2 crimes were reported, this again is unacceptable however considering the size of the ward and the transient community frequenting the ward this number is very low. With increased presence on the ward we have reduced crime and less people are becoming victims of vehicle crime on Hillside ward. PC Greg HUNT, Crime Prevention Advisor for Merton Police said; “By following simple steps such as locking your car and removing valuable items from your vehicle, you will significantly reduce the chance of becoming a victim of vehicle crime. Thieves will target cars which are insecure or where they can see items such as mobile phones or satellite navigation systems through the window. The aim of our campaign is to educate motorists on how to reduce the risk.” Despite repeated calls for the public to be vigilant around their personal property within the town centre residents and visitors to Hillside are continually victim to theft of personal items. During April seven people became victims of pick-pocketing in Wimbledon Town centre. Recent plain clothes patrols by your team in April paid off around Starbucks Coffee shop where officers arrested three persons for credit card crime. Increased patrols continue along with PCSO's delivering crime prevention advice at venues across the ward. If you would like to receive personal property alarms and bells please contact us and we will deliver these items to you. A community satisfaction Survey was recently conducted by PC HOPKINS in the Hillside Ward. The survey highlighted issues surrounding areas of Graffiti and poor street lighting. In response to this the local Safer Neighbourhood Team and PC HOPKINS have arranged for a visual audit to be conducted in the area. We have been liaising closely with the local council and this will allow us to organise the removal of any Graffiti and for street lighting to be improved. Increased patrols continue and a series of crime prevention tactics have been deployed. There has been a marked decrease in the number of reported acts of criminal damage and we will continue in our efforts to identify those offenders on the Ward. Although PC Hopkins is not a member of the local SNT he is continuing with his efforts to assist the ward in any way possible. Core response teams have been appraised of the local issues and have been tasked with conducting high visibility patrols in the area in an effort to further deter crime You can contact your team on the following telephone number 0208 721 2458 or via e-mail hillside.snt@met.police.uk, your ward panel is meeting 20th May 2010 if you have any issues you wish to raise at the panel meeting please contact us and I will ensure that these are raised at the meeting.
