So far in the month of April there have been three burglaries reported on Pollards Hill ward. This includes both residential and non-residential offences. This compares favourably with February which saw a peak of 14 offences and March which saw 7 offences. To put the figures in comparison, the last six months has seen approximately a 24% decrease in burglary offences compared with the same period last year. This is a fantastic result but we will continue to target known burglars living in the area. Please continue to report any suspicious behaviour whatsoever to us on the number below. We can only get the results with your help.
With the onset of warmer weather please be conscious of leaving windows open. Always check every window before leaving your home and if you have ground floor windows open, ensure all property is well out of reach. Pollards Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team are available to give you a Home Security Survey to improve security at your home. Please contact us on the number below to book your survey.
Along with the better weather means more people using Mitcham common. This area provides a fantastic open space for everyone to enjoy. The common is a unique area of different habitats, with many species of rare plants and wildlife. The common also has large areas set over to hay production during the summer months which in the past have been badly damaged by fire. It is an offence to light any fire or discard anything likely to cause a fire, anywhere on the common. Mitcham Common Conservators have placed numbers on the horse trail signs. If a fire is spotted, then quoting the number on the post to the Fire Brigade when calling them, will assist them in locating the fire a lot quicker. Please report anyone you suspect may be starting a fire on Mitcham Common by calling 999.
There will be regular police patrols on the common over the summer months with officers on foot, cycles and on off-road bikes ensuring the common can be enjoyed by all. It is an offence to use any vehicle on the common and anyone caught doing so will be reported for any relevant offences and risk having their vehicle seized under Operation Reclaim, a Metropolitan Police initiative to remove all uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers/riders from the roads and open spaces.
Stay safe
