On Thursday 25/3/10, Pollards Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team in conjunction with Lavender Hill and Longthornton wards, conducted a screening arch operation at Harris Academy, Wide Way.
This was in response to disorder experienced outside the school within the last few weeks where groups of youths have been congregating outside the school. It was believed groups of youths from other schools in the area have tried to meet up with pupils from Harris Academy to fight. This has been disrupted by extra police patrols from Mitcham Safer Neighbourhood Teams as well as response teams from Croydon and Merton Borough’s.
The screening arch had the full cooperation from staff at Harris Academy. Over 150 pupils were screened, no weapons were found.
This was a high profile operation bought about by concerns from the local community about recent events. Police activity is aimed at protecting the public from those who break the law by carrying knives and other prohibited weapons.
Pollards Hill Safer Neighbourhood team will continue to conduct these operations in the future.
Please contact us on 0208 649 3604 if anyone has any questions concerning this or any other activity undertaken by police.
Pollards Hill’s next drop in surgery is at The New Horizon Centre, South Lodge Avenue on 26/03/10 between 1900-2000hrs. Please take this opportunity to meet us with your concerns.
