Alley Gates 03 Jan 16:09

We have had reports recently of people knocking on doors in the local area asking residents if they may borrow their alley gate keys to gain entry to the rear alleyway. On these occasions the people have claimed to be new residents in the area and have said they have been asked by Merton Council to collect the key.

We have investigated this matter and found that these people are not new residents in the area nor have they been asked to obtain keys by Merton Council. We believe the people knocking for alley gate keys are trying to gain unauthorised access to alleyways possibly to commit criminal offences.

If someone attends your address asking for an alley gate key, unless you know them, please do not hand your gate key over as you may be providing access to a criminal.

If you have any further information about this situation or if you notice anything suspicious or would just like some advice on the matter please contact Pollards Hill Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) via this website or using the details below.
