The Operation took place on 15th, 16th, and 17th December 2009 between 1030hrs & 1530hrs. Tactics used: With full co-operation of the premises owner, MPS portable ANPR equipment was used at the Total Service Station, Rowan Road and control taken of their own CCTV equipment. PC Stevens monitored all activity taking place on the forecourt and in the shop. All vehicles entering forecourt were captured by the ANPR equipment and VRMs checked through numerous MPS databases and the police national computer. A marked Police vehicle was used to stop vehicles of interest away from the petrol station and an unmarked car was also used. MPS "Forecourt Watch" posters supplied and displayed prominently at the venue. Vehicles and persons of interest were stopped and processed with the following results… Results: 250 vehicles per day checked through ANPR databases. 3 drivers processed for No Insurance and vehicles seized. Vehicle known to armed commercial robberies and cash in transit robberies followed off by unmarked car and stopped by Trojan (firearms) units. Valuable Intel gathered. 2 persons attempted to negotiate with cashier having drawn fuel but with no means of payment. Police intervention resulted in friends attending with money whilst subjects were still at venue. 4 negative Breath-Tests conducted. 20+ stop and searches conducted, Intel gathered. One vehicle seized for forensic examination having been involved in a recent serious road traffic collision. Strategic Overt Police Presence ensured that No Making-Off offences were committed during the hours of the operation. The owner of the business/franchise visited the venue and expressed his gratitude to Police for the operation and promised full support for any future activity. Mr Tandon owns six other service stations in South London / Surrey and stated that his dealings with Longthornton SNT have been the first positive Police interaction he has experienced and he was extremely pleased with our attention to his issues.
