Cricket Green Ward Update 24 Jun 13:23
PRIORITY - ASB Phipps Bridge Estate As most of you are aware, there was a recent serious stabbing on the estate. This involved an altercation between a local family and a group of youths resulting in three people being seriously injured by one of the youths who ran off to get a knife. The person believed responsible has been arrested and charged and three other people are currently on bail. It is believed to be an isolated incident and is not believed to be related to any ongoing issue. Following this incident, team members attended a public meeting along with MP Siobhan McDonagh and the new Partnership Chief Inspector Mark Lawrence. This was an opportunity to speak with the local council and senior Police officer as well as the Safer Neighbourhoods Team. The event was well attended and an update on the investigation was given as well as the chance for any questions people had to be answered. The team have been patrolling the area as much as possible following this incident and we have also had additional resources such as our task force in the area to provide reassurance and stop and search those who may be carrying knives. If you were unable to attend the meeting or have any concerns or questions about this incident, please contact us on the details below. PRIORITY - Burglary We continue to try and reduce the number of burglaries on the ward. We are offering crime prevention advice at numerous community engagement events across the ward over the summer and the next one will be at the Mitcham Garden Village on the 1st of July between 11am and 3pm. Please feel free to come along and meet the team. Please ensure that you remain vigilant over the summer and keep your doors and windows closed when you are out. PRIORITY - Theft from motor vehicle We currently hold a drop in surgery at the Phipps Bridge Community Centre where we offer crime prevention advice to attendees (see website for details) and are looking for a venue to host a similar thing nearer to the Police Station on the other side of the ward. We have contacted a couple of locations where there are a high number of people passing to see if they would be willing to let us be there for an hour or so a week and I will update you as soon as we have found a venue. We continue to operate the vulnerable vehicle scheme where we identify vehicles with property on show that could attract thieves and notify the owners of the risks attached.
