SHOOTING INCIDENT IN MITCHAM On Saturday 26th September at approximately 11:40pm, police were called to Bookham Court, Phipps Bridge Road to reports of gun shots being fired. On arrival, police found a 16 year old youth in Batsworth Road suffering from a gun shot wound to his left leg. He was taken to a South London hospital for treatment. It is believed that the 16 year old victim was one of six youths outside Bookham Court, Phipps Bridge Road when they were fired at numerous times by one of two men on a black motorbike. The only description available of the two men is that they were dressed all in black. The police at Merton have carried out extensive enquiries in the local area including reassurance visits from the Cricket Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team. Superintendent Pete Dobson said “This is an unusual incident for our borough which remains one of the safest in London. We are supporting the ongoing investigation by our specialist Operation Trident Officers and taking local measures to reassure our community. We have consulted with local residents and community leaders immediately affected by this. We are aware of the challenges faced by our neighbouring boroughs and are working with them to help bring these offenders to justice.” The incident is being investigated by officers from Trident.
