On Wednesday the 12 of January 2011 at Barclays Bank South Ealing Road W5 a member of the public attempted to withdraw cash from the cash machine. The machine instructed him to remove his cash but none came out. On inspecting the dispensing slot at the bottom he found that a piece of metal had been placed over the slot. It very closely resembled the slots own cover but was clearly on top of it. He called police and remained with the machine. His money had been drawn back inside the machine and therefore he did not lose any cash.
Please be aware of this type of crime. When using these machines check them to ensure they have not been tampered with. If in doubt don’t use it, contact the branch or phone the number shown on the outside of the machine during closing times. If you find a machine which has been tampered with contact police and if possible don’t leave the machine until police arrive.

At 3pm on Wednesday 15 December 2010, two officers from the Borough were attacked whilst dealing with a man stopped in Ealing Broadway. A police officer received serious injuries and has undergone surgery. He remains in a serious but stable condition. A PCSO also received stab wounds. He has been treated and released from hospital.
A man is in custody and a weapon has been recovered at the scene. We encourage anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and speak to police. Contact your local SNT or call the incident room on 020 8721 4205.
This is a shocking incident, but it is extremely rare for police officers to receive injuries of this nature on duty. Be assured that the business of policing the Ealing Borough will continue as normal.

Dear Residents,
There has been an incident recently on Southfield Ward whereby a resident has been approached by a couple of individuals offering their services as builders. The end result was that this resident unfortunately became a victim of a theft of a considerable amount of money.
Please be aware that there are still people that will use any pretence to gain money from unsuspecting residents. They often come across as respectable and approachable with plausible reasons/excuses for knocking at doors. Be careful of this and if you have any doubts do not let any person into your homes without any prior appointments.
Do not be afraid of ringing the emergency number 999 should you feel concerned at any point.

Dear residents,
We are bringing to your notice a couple incidents that have occured recently on Southfield Ward.
On Monday morning 8th November two burglaries were reported to police that occured overnight. Both were on streets neighbouring each other. Both however were similar in the way the suspect gained entry. Criminals that place their hands through letterboxes in order to unlock the front door have struck several times recently on the ward and this has happened again at these two addresses.
Although we are trying as hard as possible to arrest these offenders, there are a few measures residents can take to possibly avoid becoming victims of this particular crime.
Firstly double lock your front doors when going out and in particular overnight. Secondly, do not leave either house nor car keys in the vicinity of the front door. Burglars are often equipped with articles to assist them in stealing keys even if you believe they are out of reach.
And lastly we recommend letter box guards.

Dear Residents,
I am writing to you to highlight an issue that is causing problems not only on Southfield Ward but across Ealing Borough in general.
Robbery of mobile phones is still continuing and it is a problem that can be reduced if a few simple steps are taken. Most of the crime reports we recieve on Southfield Ward are where the victim of this crime is walking alone often having just left a train station or come off a bus.
As they walk along they use their phone either to make a telephone call or to text someone. As they do this they are completely unaware that someone (offender) is approaching them form behind often on pedal cycles.
The phone is then grabbed from the unsupecting victim.
Our advice is to only make a call whilst walking to your destination if it is urgent. The darker evenings in particular highlight the fact someone is using their mobile as it lights up when in use.
Please be aware of your surroundings in respect of this.

Dear Residents,
There a couple of events taking place in Chiswick in September that we feel might be useful for you to know about.
Firstly the front office at Chiswick Police Station will be closed from Monday 6th September 2010 for approximately one week to allow building works work to take place. This refurbishment will not impact on police operations from the building and officers will be patrolling the local community as normal.
Members of the public who need to attend the front office at Chiswick during this time can contact the police in one of several ways -
By visiting front offices at neighbouring police stations - Brentford, Acton, Hammersmith and Hounslow will all be open as shown on www.met.police.uk
By calling the police control room on 0300 123 1212
By contacting your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team, details of which can be found on www.met.police.uk/saferneighbourhoods
Non urgent reports of crime can also be made at www.met.police.uk In an emergency always dial 999.
Secondly on Saturday September 11th, organisations from across West London will be on Chiswick Common for the 2nd Chiswick Community Safety Day. Between 10am and 4pm, there will be stands and events taking place that will showcase the work of community safety agencies working in Chiswick. Ranging from the blue light services to local charities, the event will be an opportunity for local residents to see how much work goes into helping the local area. As well as this, there will be stands from organisations helping young people, displays and competitions for visitors to watch and take part in.
The event will include stands from the fire brigade, air ambulance, police, the local council and many more besides. Admission is free and there will be a live radio broadcast from the event.
Local charities will also be supported - The Dukes Meadow Trust, Meadow House Hospice, Age UK and the Tommy Hollis Fund will all be in attendance on the day.
Although this event has been organised by Chiswick Police (Hounslow Borough) officers from Southfield SNT will also there on the day so please come along and have a chat.

Dear residents
We have recieved a letter from a concerned resident and we feel that it is a matter that you should be aware of:
Hello
i just had a call from something like the "crime research association" offering a free burglar alarm to selected properties in Valetta Rd. When pressed i was told that although the alarm was free there would be an unspecified monitoring charge. I then looked this up on the internet and discovered this has already been reported as a scam in different parts of the country:
http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/rbnews/5041925.REDBRIDGE__Council_warns_of_burglar_alarm_scam/
http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2010/03/beware-free-burglar-alarm-offe.html
The caller was particularly interested in finding out if i was over 80 and the above reports stress the elderly are targeted. Given there are a number of elderly residents in Valetta Rd would it be worth alerting people to the dangers of responding to this kind of call?
Please be aware of the implications should you be offered this service.

Dear Residents
We have recently had an incident on Southfield Ward where a resident has been the unfortunate victim of "hard luck" story. A young white girl, smartly dressed in her early twenties and appeared to be 4 to 5 months pregnant, knocked on the residents door and stated that she had not got any money to get to work as she had misplaced her hand bag with her Oyster card inside. Many people who use this story often ask to use the residents phone from which they dial a number which the resident is charged often at a very considerable rate. Please dont let them "borrow" your phone. The resident took pity on this female and "lent" her £10. Not suprisingly the female has not been seen since.
Could we please remind you all that in alot of these cases the "victims" story often seems a plausible one. We urge you therefore that if this happens to you not to let any one into your property and if the person genuinely appears distressed and in need of assistance that you call 999 for one of the emergency services. If the person is genuine they will remain there and wait for help.
Theft from motor vehicles continues to be a problem especially now in the warm weather. There has been a recent incident on the ward where a driver has left the front passenger window open whilst driving. When she came to a stop a thief on a pedal cycle reached in and grabbed her bag which was on the seat next to her and made off. Please be aware of this.

There have been a number of cases recently where members of public have been approached in the street and have been offered what they believe to be a laptop or camera. After handing the money over the item was found to be bottles of water or onions of the same weight.
A few months ago we arrested 2 males in Eastcote Lane at the junction of Moat Farm Road, near the no-entry. They had a laptop, a receipt, loads of empty laptop bags and loads of sacks of onions.
Should you be approached by people offering you goods in those circumstances always call 999.

SOUTHALL police are set to receive two commendations from top brass at New Scotland Yard at a ceremony in April.
Inspector Rob Bryan, head of the local policing unit, will receive an environmental efficiency commendation for his work in helping to reclaim the derelict Victory Pub, in Southall's High Street, from squatters.
The Lady Margaret safer neighbourhoods team, led by Sergeant Mark Hazell, will receive an environmental efficiency commendation for creating a multi-faith, volunteer clean-up team in Southall.
In partnership with Muslim and Christian groups, they have brought about lasting change to a number of run-down areas in Southall.
The team also came second in the 2009 Capital Clean Up Awards.
Inspector Bryan said: "It is nice to receive recognition for the hard work undertaken in Southall by the local police, in partnership with other agencies and the community.
"I believe both pieces of work have brought about lasting positive changes in Southall as a direct result of concerns raised to us by the local community.

SOUTHALL GREEN NEWS
Southall Gazette - March 5th 2010 - Front Page - Cannabis Factory Raid
A substantial amount of cannabis plants was discovered following a drug raid in Southall.
Officers from Southall Green SNT burst into a property on Hammond Road on Tuesday and discovered a cannabis-farming operation.
More than 40 plants in total were found being grown in all of the rooms and in three sheds in the back garden, with all the hydrophonics attached.
Sergeant Richard Moelwyn-Hughes, team leader for the SNT said: "We are very pleased with the results of today's raid. This was an organised operation which has taken out of circulation a lot of cannabis which was destined for the streets of Southall."
A 56-year old man was arrested and bailed pending enquiries.
