Artifice Burglary
We have recently had a Burglary on Avenue Road, Acton W3. The suspect tricked his way in to the victims home in order to steal property from the address. The victim was an elderly female. Whilst taking the rubbish out a male entered her address and when approached by the victim, he stated that he had come to fix the washing machine, and asked her to empty out her cupboard next to the washing machine. Whilst the victim did this the suspect took her handbag and purse.
Please be aware that people will use deception in order to gain access to properties in order to steal valuables. Do not grant access to people unless you are certain they are from a legitimate organisation and always ask for identification.
If you receive a knock on the door from somebody in circumstances you deem to be suspicious, and strongly suspect it to be a bogus call please do not grant them access to your home and call 999. You could also contact your Safer Neighbourhoods Team, or alternatively call the non emergency number on 0300 123 1212. If you require an immediate response always dial 999.
Many Thanks,
South Acton SNT
