Update from South Acton SNT (www.lnwa.net) 07 Jun 20:26
Hi folks, This is the London Neighbourhood Watch Association Newsletter #32 NEIGHBOURHOOD & HOME WATCH NETWORK Neighbourhood & Home Watch Network (England & Wales), opened its new offices in Leicester on 17 May 2010. Leicestershire Constabulary has, for the past 3 years, supported NHWN by providing the movement with an office and facilities for the national chair, Marion Lewis, at Harborough Police Station. Following a grant of £180,000 from the Home Office, NHWN, which is an independent charity, has been able to recruit 3 new staff to help manage and support the 7.9 million NHW national membership and have relocated to a new office in Leicester. The location was chosen because of its central position and minimal costs to the organization. NHWN is the official body which represents all Neighbourhood & Home Watches across England and Wales and was set up in 2007 when the then national association went into liquidation. The NHWN was formed following extensive consultation with NHW members and associations. It is the only official national body which represents ALL NHW members in the nine regions of England and Wales and is fully supported by the Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Full details can be found on its website: www.mynhw.co.uk Chair of the Trustees of NHWN Marion Lewis said ’’I am delighted that following a search which took us to view many offices across England, the NHWN has chosen to continue to stay within the East Midlands region and in particular Leicestershire.’’ The new staff took up their posts at the Beaumont Enterprise Centre on 17 May 2010. NHWN Operations Director - Kate Daisley - will manage the strategic development of NHWN, implement the Business Plan and play a key part in supporting the national board to deliver agreed outcomes. NHWN Development Manager - Sundeep Gill - will support NHWN members, NHW associations and grassroots groups in delivering their activities and outcomes. She will also work with all members to ensure a wide participation in annual events including NHW Week. Presumably, having watched the mother leave for the shops, a man in a grey Fiat pulled up and a casually dressed, 40ish white male with stubble knocked on the door asking for 'the driver' of the Ford Focus parked in the driveway. The children said their parents weren't in. The man then said he had come to collect the keys so he can take the car for its MOT. Luckily the kids were immediately suspicious and refused to hand over the keys (also containing the house keys). Best Regards HM Revenue & Customs” HMR&C do not as a matter of course offer “refunds” but there is an e-mail address to which you can forward fake offers such as this - phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk SMART WATER SmartWater is an anti-criminal system marketed in by Smartwater Technology Ltd. It consists of a liquid containing a code which can be read under ultraviolet light and is intended to be applied to valuable items so that, if they are stolen and later seized by police, their original owner can be determined. Another application is a sprinkler system that sprays a burglar with the (invisible) fluid which can't be washed off and lasts for months to generate evidence which connects a suspect to a specific location. SmartWater is currently running a programme with several London Boroughs in partnership with the Borough Police. As a result, NW members can purchase SmartWater at the price the Police pay, namely £15.00 per kit plus VAT & Postage. This is a significant saving as the normal retail price for a household kit is £59.88 per annum. An added benefit is that there is no renewal fee in relation to this offer. If anyone is interested, please contact Kieran Madden, Police Partnership Manager, SmartWater Technology Ltd (Mobile: 07738 252151 or Tel: 0870 242 8899) and ask for special Neighbourhood Watch price. Well, that’s it for this month. Thanks for listening and, as always, on behalf of the London Neighbourhood Watch Association, I thank each of you for your work and support. Kind regards, Alfred J Kennedy Treasurer The London Neighbourhood Watch Association Limited
