SOUTHALL police are set to receive two commendations from top brass at New Scotland Yard at a ceremony in April. Inspector Rob Bryan, head of the local policing unit, will receive an environmental efficiency commendation for his work in helping to reclaim the derelict Victory Pub, in Southall's High Street, from squatters. The Lady Margaret safer neighbourhoods team, led by Sergeant Mark Hazell, will receive an environmental efficiency commendation for creating a multi-faith, volunteer clean-up team in Southall. In partnership with Muslim and Christian groups, they have brought about lasting change to a number of run-down areas in Southall. The team also came second in the 2009 Capital Clean Up Awards. Inspector Bryan said: "It is nice to receive recognition for the hard work undertaken in Southall by the local police, in partnership with other agencies and the community. "I believe both pieces of work have brought about lasting positive changes in Southall as a direct result of concerns raised to us by the local community.
