GSZ3004.1 May Day Rally Road Closures 30 Apr 13:54
On Sat 1st May there will be large road closures within the GSZ this is due to the May Day rally. The Labour Day march will see supporters gathering at Clerkenwell Green from noon to make their way over Waterloo Bridge along the Strand and into Trafalgar Square. It usually attracts several thousand people and passes peacefully. It could attract higher numbers this year though due to the event falling on a Saturday and the General Election. Election Meltdown will stage a rally from 14.30hrs onwards in Parliament Square, which they will converge upon from four different locations using the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse puppet theme. One group will start at Clerkenwell Green and will join the end of the Labour Day march and the others will start at the headquarters of the three main political parties. They will drag effigies of the three main political party leaders. Some plan to camp on the square until Thursday/Friday when the election results come in. The main roads that will be closed will be: Waterloo Bridge Aldwych The Strand Trafalgar Square Parliament Square These will all be closed from 1130hrs The Following Roads will have part closures and Contra Flow diversions on them: Victoria Street Charring Cross Road Haymarket The Mall Cockspur Street Whitehall These will all be affected from 1130hrs Other roads may be affected if Demonstrations/Rally’s decide to deviate and Comm Safes will be sent when roads are affected.
