London has recently experienced a number of protests and demonstrations in relation to the proposed implementation of cuts to public spending by the government. These events have captured the hearts and minds of many and it is likely in the current economic climate that interest in this issue will continue for the foreseeable future.
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has announced that they are holding a 'March for the Alternative' rally on Saturday 26th March 2011. The march will assemble on Victoria Embankment between Temple Place and Blackfriars to march to Hyde Park along the following route: Embankment; Bridge Street; Whitehall; Trafalgar Square; Cockspur Street; Pall Mall; Waterloo Place; Regent Street; Piccadilly; Park Lane; Hyde Park (entering Hyde Park corner).
Protesters are requested to assemble from 11 am with the march moving off at midday. A planned rally in Hyde Park will start at 1.30 pm and end at 4.30 pm.
For more information on the proposed march and rally please view website http://marchforthealternative.org.uk
The majority of those intending to attend this event will be peaceful and law abiding. There is a possibility that some groups may take the opportunity to engage in direct action and public disorder.
CTSET would welcome the opportunity to engage with organisations and communities who are likely to be affected by this event and discuss any issues and concerns. We hope that by working together we may prevent or minimise any tensions arising from this march. A policing plan is in operation for the duration of this event which is resourced by the public order branch. On the day please have a robust security operation in place for your premises and report any suspicious behaviour or groups to Police. Community Safe will be used regularly before and during the event to provide updates. Message sent by PS BaxterWestminster CT Focus Desk on behalf of CT set .
