Incident in Cheam Road on 4th May 2010. 05 May 11:08
Statement from Sutton Borough Commander Guy Ferguson Re incident in Cheam Road on 4th May 2010. “Sutton Police officers are working closely with the MPS’ Homicide and Serious Crime Command who have launched an investigation following the death of a 49-year-old man at an address in Cheam Road, Sutton, yesterday (Tuesday 4th May). “The man, who had suffered from multiple injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man (aged 27) has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at a South London police station." “We understand that some residents will be concerned that this is the second murder investigation in Sutton in less than ten days; there was a completely unconnected incident at Winchcombe Road, Sutton, on 26th April, which resulted in two men being charged with murder. The Winchcombe Road incident involved individuals who were known to each other." “Although the investigation into Cheam Road has only just begun, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident at this stage.” “We are talking to local residents about what has happened and are in close contact with our public service partners to keep them updated.” “Although we have had two murder investigations in a short period of time, we would like to reassure residents that incidents like these in Sutton are extremely rare. However, we are not complacent and we are continuing to work hard to keep crime levels low, detect crime and bring offenders before the courts. We will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure Sutton remains one of the safest boroughs in London.”
