London has recently experienced a number of protests and demonstrations in relation to the proposed implementation of cuts to public spending by the government. These events have captured the hearts and minds of many and it is likely in the current economic climate that interest in this issue will continue for the foreseeable future. The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has announced that they are holding a march and rally entitled 'March for the Alternative' on Saturday 26 March 2011 in response to the government’s proposed austerity measures. Participants will assemble from 11am between Temple Place and Blackfriars and will march to Hyde Park at midday along the following route: Embankment; Bridge Street; Whitehall; Trafalgar Square; Cockspur Street; Pall Mall; Waterloo Place; Lower Regent Street; Piccadilly; Park Lane; Hyde Park (entering Hyde Park corner). A planned rally in Hyde Park will start at 1.30 pm and is scheduled to end at 4.30 pm. Security officers and staff will need to be vigilant in and around their premises with strict security protocols in place for the duration of the event.
