Lambeth Cadets achieve success in competition
Lambeth Volunteer Police Cadets achieved success in the annual Metropolitan Police Cadet competition that took place over the weekend (10th and 11th July) at Hendon training school by coming first in one of the categories and second in another.
The competition saw entries from the cadet programme in almost the entire thirty-two London boroughs and tested the cadet’s skills in police powers, drill, procedures, team-work, first aid and the 500 meter shield run.
Lambeth Volunteer Police Cadets have achieved their best results since 2001 by coming first in the immensely contended drill and second (beaten by one point!) in the police powers and procedures, placing them third overall.
PC Paul Dowsett, Lambeth’s cadet co-ordinator stated: "I am once again very proud of the young people of this borough. They continually show dedication and community focus with everything they do. They have volunteered so many hours for the borough of Lambeth, including fetes, leaflet drops, test purchasing and central aids.
This hard work has paid off today with the great result we have achieved against all the other boroughs in London. I would like to thank the staff and cadets for all their ‘extra’ free time they have put in over the last few months".
Lambeth Volunteer Police Cadets currently has 62 young people, meeting once a week at a local school. During the last two years cadets have progressed into becoming Special Constables, PCSO's, staff of SO15 the Met’s Counter Terrorism command, Volunteer Police Staff and other outside agencies including Immigration.
