BOGUS CALLER & VEHICLE CRIME
Dear residents,
On Tuesday 24th August 2010 between 1600 - 1700 hrs, a male posing as a British Gas employee attended an address on Chester Row, stating that he was there to take a meter reading. Although nothing from the premises was taken, the occupier believed the male to be suspicious, and later called British Gas who confirmed they did not have any engineers in the area on that day.
The male was described as a white male approximately 45-50 years of age, brown hair with specs of grey, wearing a light grey jumper with the British Gas logo on the front, he was also carrying what appeared to be a meter reader, and had a form of photo identification.
On the same day, the same resident had items stolen from his car which was parked on Chester Row, the vehicle had no damage and it was unclear how the suspect gained entry to the vehicle. We cannot confirm if these incidents were linked.
Theft from motor vehicle has risen in this area, please be aware and never leave items on display in your vehicle, if possible never leave valuable items in the boot of your car.
On Wednesday of this week I patrolled the whole of Chester row and listed 5 vehicles that had valuables on display.
Please do not become a victim ! ! !
Many thanks
