Lower Morden Newsletter for 18th June 2009

The Ward Panel meet last night in Aragon School. During the meeting changes in crime trends and perception of issues in Lower Morden where discussed. At the end of the meeting it was decided that the team will now work on FOUR priorities.

1) Burglary
2) Motor Vehicle Crime including Theft of, Theft from and Criminal Damage to M/V
3) ASB by Motorists
4) ASB by Youths

ASB by youths as a problem has fallen over the last few months but it was felt by the Ward Panel that it was best to keep this priority so the work done so far is not lost.

The new priority of Motor Vehicle Crime ahs been added. This is due mainly to a noticeable increase in the number of Vehicles being broken into. These numbers are still not high compared to other wards on the Borough. Between the 12th Mar and 30th Apr, there was 12 motor vehicle related crimes and then between the 1st May and 17th Jun this had increased to 16.

The team will be trying and number of different tactics some of which may include reactive enforcement when individuals involved in these crimes are identified. The team will also be trying to prevent these types of crime by informing motor vehicle owner’s of valuable items that are clearly left on display. The owners of the vehicles will spoke to at the time or a letter with Crime Prevention advice sent.

For individuals on the KIN survey list, these are due again and members of the team will be trying to get round to each of you individually over the next fortnight.

On a tri monthly basis the Ward Panel meets and decides the priorities for the SNT team to work on. This is a group of volunteers from the local community, either resident or who work at a business on the ward. We are still looking for extra members for the Ward Panel if we have any volunteers.

The team continues to provide an effective police response to issue concerning the residents/ visitors to Lower Morden Ward. If you have any concerns re crime or Anti Social Behaviour please contact the team on 0208 721 2456 or email LowerMorden.SNT@met.police.uk
