TrinitySafer Neighbourhoods Team 020 8721 2453 Trinity.snt@met.police.uk Newsletter
Welcome to the first Ward newsletter to be sent out via CommunitySafe, the best way to get police updates about what is happening in your local area. Please can I encourage you to get your friends/neighbours to join at www.communitysafe.gov.uk and join the Trinity Safer Neighbourhood Team. WARD PRIORITIES The current priorities for Trinity wards are: 1. Anti-social behaviour by youths in Wimbledon Town Centre The team regularly patrol outside Centre Court and commercial shop units in the centre of Wimbledon. There is a dispersal area authorised for the next five months. This enables us to tell youths to leave the area if they are behaving in an anti-social manner. If they return in breach of this they are liable to arrest. Recently a youth was asked to leave as he had been spitting in front of a shop door, swearing and shouting. Following his return five minutes later he was arrested and charged. He appeared at Wimbledon Youth Court and now has a three month curfew to prevent him adversely affecting the quality of life for others. 2. Anti-social behaviour related to alcohol in Wimbledon Town Centre There is an extensive controlled drinking zone in the Town Centre. It enables us to stop people drinking alcohol in the street. Within the zone we can seize any alcohol from any relevant individual. Elsewhere we regularly confiscate cigarettes and alcohol from those under eighteen. 3. Anti-social behaviour related to drugs – Autumn Close/North Road Regular patrols in this area have led to several arrests for possession of drugs following use of police stop and search powers. Three addresses have been searched with drugs found and seized at two of these. One individual has been charged with the supply of drugs and awaits trial at Crown Court. There has been a noticeable drop in numbers of youths congregating recently. A recent arrest of a male suspected of criminal damage led to a drug seizure from his motor vehicle. The male has been bailed and will be charged upon his return. The priorities are set by a ward panel that meets four times a year. The next meeting is planned for the 14th January 2009. At that meeting the priorities are reviewed and amended as the panel feel necessary. General There has been a recent increase in vehicle crime on Trinity Ward. A few cars have had property stolen from within – please think about removing or concealing any property left in vehicles overnight. A few cars have had the number plates stolen – we have a limited amount of special screws to prevent this. Finally, a few cars have had a wing mirror or windscreen wiper damaged. Though apparently relatively minor the damage causes a great deal of inconvenience. The majority of these vehicle crimes are occurring overnight. If you do see or hear anyone responsible please call 999 at the time. Below is a new non-emergency number launched in October 2008 to take some pressure off the 999 system.
