A regular update message from your Wimbledon Park Safer Neighbourhood Team.
We have had Halloween and Fireworks Night during the last couple of weeks. Despite terrible weather, they were both a great success. Additional patrols ensured there were no problems due to the volume of people present. It seems that the message regarding no alcohol in the park worked and very few seizures were necessary. The funfair was closed down at 10pm without incident and the park cleared 20 minutes later – an all time record!
Priorities for this month remain motor vehicle crime, anti-social youth behaviour, combating the fear of violence and graffiti.
The team patrols the ward daily and targets any areas identified from crime trends. We have also been out with council officers on a graffiti patrol using a covert vehicle and CCTV. Licensed premises have been put to the test with controlled purchases being carried out with the licensing officer. We are pleased to say that all premises passed.
We are now in the run-up to Christmas, a time when historically burglaries increase. Please make sure that you take every opportunity to protect your property and vehicles. Do not leave presents visible from windows, remove satnav’s and holders, lock windows and doors; use timers on lights, set your alarms and report any suspicious activity.
There has been one burglary and one attempted burglary in the last week. Also of note is the theft of two sets of number plates over the last weekend – again please remain vigilant.
If you have any general concerns, you can speak with your neighbourhood team face-to-face at the regular surgery on the first Wednesday of each month between 6pm and 8pm at the pavilion in the park. You can also contact us via e-mail at wimbledonpark.snt@met.police.uk
